The Road Less Traveled

I never thought about this road 'till now,
I've been traveling it for quite awhile.
So many generations have traveled it before me;
As I think about them, it always makes me smile.

I think about two Grandma's and two Grandpa's too,
Not ever knowing them I missed a lot it seems.
When I was young I never gave much thought about them,
I suppose my life was filled with only childhood dreams.

Looking back, it's all so clear.
I see all the how's and wherefore's
And why's that I had never known.
It's taken me a lifetime
To get where others have gone before me
And as I travel down that road,
I know I'm not traveling alone.

Not too far in the distance,
I see some figures there,
Among the trees, along the paths
And in the oddest places.
The road is misty up ahead...
Could that be angels that I see?
I know I've never met them,
But they have familiar faces.

It's been quite a walk I've taken
While on this road less traveled,
I'm grateful that I never knew
What was around a bend.
I've crossed a lot of rivers,
I've climbed a hill or two,
I've hit some bumps
And had some heartaches
I thought would never end.

More times than naught...
This road has been a happy, funfilled road.
I met a lot of people,
I'm honored to call a few... "My Friend".
And one day I'll meet all
Those that traveled this road before me,
Including two sweet Grandma's and Granpa's too,
That I never had a chance to see.
But... this is such a lovely road to travel
I'm in no hurry getting to the end.
