“When Christmas bells are swinging above the fields of snow,
we hear sweet voices ringing from lands of long ago,
and etched on vacant places are half-forgotten faces
of friends we used to cherish, and loves we used to know”
Ellen Wheeler Wilcox

O God, our help in ages past,
Our hope in years to be,
Look down upon this troubled world
And see our need of Thee.
For in this age of unrest,
With violence all around
We need Thy hand to lead us
To higher, safer ground.
Without Thy help and counsel
We are helpless to restore
Safety and security
To our hearts and homes once more.
And give us strength and courage
To be honorable and true
And to place our trust implicitly
In unseen things and You.
And keep us kind and humble
And fill our hearts with love,
Which in this selfish, greedy world
Man has so little of.
Forgive our transgressions
And help us find the way
To a better world for everyone
Where man walks in peace each day.
Helen Steiner Rice

Mankind must put an end to war
before war puts an end to mankind.

Readers may be interested to know that these wreaths -some 5,000
are donated by the Worcester Wreath Co. of Harrington , Maine.
The owner, Merrill Worcester, not only provides the wreaths,
but covers the trucking expense as well. He's done this since 1992.
A wonderful guy. Also, most years, groups of Maine school kids
combine an educational trip to DC with this event to help out.
Making this even more remarkable is the fact that Harrington
is in one the poorest parts of the state.
